Bryant Furniture Company

Founded about 1893

 

Alfred R. Bryant was born in Truxton, Cortland County, NY on August 19, 1845. His parents were Edmund W. and Almeda (Corey) Bryant. On August 22, 1867 Bryant married his first wife Alice T. Colby. His second wife was Alice T. McAllester, whom he married on July 31, 1900. They had one son who was born on August 2, 1904. Alfred R. Bryant was the founder and manager of the Bryant furniture Co. of Truxton, NY. He was also the President of the Truxton and Cuyler Telephone Company and was a Director of DeRuyter Bank. “Marshall C. Wood, of the Brewer-Titchener corporation has purchased the Bryant furniture company of Truxton. The business was founded thirty years ago by the late A. R. Bryant. Mr. Wood will take over the business on December 1, and will make Louis D. Crandall, who has been in charge of the plant since Mr. Bryant’s death, factory superintendent.” [1923-11-16]

 

“Upon the death of Mr. [Alfred R.] Bryant in May, 1923, the business was purchased by Marshall C. Wood of Cortland, the present [1926] owner and manager.” [1926-08-27]

 

The Baptist Church was sold to Marshall C. Wood for use as a warehouse for the Bryant Furniture Company [1924-02-01].

 

“A fire believed to have been the result of spontaneous combustion did considerable damage to the plant of the Marshall C. Wood Manufacturing company last Friday." [1929-02-08].

 

“Fire destroyed the factory building of the Marshall C. Wood Manufacturing Co. and caused a loss of approximately $40,000 last Saturday afternoon." [1929-06-28].
