Origin of the Street Names

 

  The table below contains a list of all the known streets in Mattydale. The second column contains the original development where the street was first constructed. The third column contains the origin of the street's name. Not all the stories behind the names have been discovered. If any visitors to this site have information about the origins of the names it would be greatly appreciated.

Mattydale Drive Pre - Dev Road This refers to the southern part of the north bound lane of the main road. Situated east of the plank road for a while it took the name of the adjacent Mattydale development. Name still appeared on a 1952 Syracuse Directory map. Now called Brewerton Road.
Hinsdale Drive Pre - Dev Road This refers to the northern part of the north bound lane of the main road. Situated east of the plank road for a while it took the name of the adjacent Hindale Farms development. Name still appeared on a 1952 Syracuse City Directory map. Now called Brewerton Road.
Holiday Drive Hinsdale Farms A short one block street.

Richfield Drive Richfield Farms Tract name
Harrington Street Harrington Farms A.B. Harrington. Purchased George Skiff's farm in 1919.

Teall Ave. Northwood Tract This was the northerly extension of the Teall Ave in the City of Syracuse. Teall was a business man in the Lodi area of the old city. This extension still appeared on the 1952 Syracuse city Directory but it no longer exists.

Endres Drive Post - Dev Fireman with Mattydale VFD. In 1952 this was Niles Drive and only extended about 200 feet west of Brewerton Road.
Earl Ave. Mattydale Earl Crandall - a relative of Frank Matty's 3rd wife Minnie Ear Mansfield
Beley Mattydale Described as an uncle of Frank Matty. Actually the husband of a Matty 1st cousin.
LeMoyne After 1952 Father Pierre LeMoyne. Early Jesuit explorer - 1653. This was an improved road: from 2 lanes to four lanes. It went under a railroad overpass to remove the old on grade crossing.

Roxboro Road Kirsch Tract This might be the early road that was constructed west of the plank road, by an irate farmer who was tired of paying tolls. IT enters Brewerton Road just south of where the old Toll Gate Booth used to sit.
