Michael McGraw was born in Syracuse, NY, in 1947, where he lived briefly in the university area. His family moved to the Mattydale, NY hamlet in September 1949. He attended St. Margaret’s Catholic School and later graduated from North Syracuse Central High School in 1965. Next he earned three degrees in Physics from Syracuse University: BS (1969), MS (1973) and Ph.D. (1978). He spent his career in the semiconductor industry working at Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX, then on Long Island for Veeco and finally with SEMI/SEMATECH in Austin, TX.
He maintains an extensive local history and genealogy website called mcgrathsearch.com, where he posts the results of research on his roots and those of his relatives, neighbors and friends, both here and back in Ireland. The mcgrathsearch.com website also contains another extensive website which documents the history of Mattydale and the early families who settled there.
Michael collaborates with fellow Mattydale native and North Syracuse graduate (1966) Colette (Godard) Smolinski to write historical mystery novels under the label of Les Mademoiselles’ Mysteries. These stories are based on elements of their childhood neighborhood and follow the escapades of a trio of young detectives as they discover and solve mysteries.
